NTT DoCoMo USA and ANA to Start “namikiteru™” at ANA’s Dulles Airport Lounge at Washington D.C.
New York, August 2, 2005 — NTT DoCoMo USA, Inc., the American subsidiary of Japan’s largest mobile communications company, NTT DoCoMo, Inc., and All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA) announced today that the companies will jointly offer DoCoMo USA’s proprietary Public Wireless LAN access service called “namikiteru” in the airline’s lounge at Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C., beginning on August 3, 2005.
From August 3 to October 31, access to the network will be available free-of-charge to guests via a one-day access card provided by DoCoMo USA at the lounge as a promotion. After the promotional period, namikiteru subscribers will be able to access the Internet via namikiteru’s proprietary access software. In addition, non-subscribers will be able to get Internet access for a fee of $6.95/day, payable by credit card.
Launched in November 2004 namikiteru access points are available in over 60 countries including the United States with a various tariff plan. namikiteru subscribers will be able to utilize software for BlackBerry® devices providing the ability to receive and send e-mails in the Japanese language after October 2005 as an optional service.
ANA is currently flying the new state of the art, Boeing 777-300ER for its daily New York to Narita flights. This aircraft is equipped with ANA@ Air, a service provided by Connexion by BoeingSM that offers high-speed Internet access and e-mail capabilities to passengers with laptops in all classes of service. The same aircraft will be introduced onto the Los Angeles to Narita flights in October this year, and the San Francisco to Narita flights in March 2006.
By introducing “namikiteru”, the wireless LAN access service, in thelounge at Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C., passengers using ANA’sinternational service will be able to use their time more efficiently and pleasantly.
