Masaaki Maeda is currently the President & CEO of NTT DOCOMO USA, established in November 1999 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s NTT DOCOMO.
Mr. Maeda began his career in the Japanese telecommunications industry in April 1983 at NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) in the Technical Development Department.
In March 1994, he moved to NTT DOCOMO, the mobile arm of NTT which was spun off from its parent company in 1992. During his career with NTT DOCOMO in Japan, he held a variety of managerial positions in Network Planning, Personnel, General Affairs, and Mobile Multimedia Planning. He joined the New York Office of NTT DOCOMO USA in July 2002.
In 2004, Mr. Maeda launched NTT DOCOMO USA’s first service in North America, called “namikiteru®,” which is a Public Wireless LAN Access service for Japanese-speaking residents of the USA.
It was followed in October 2005 by the introduction of “namimail®”, a software application which allows users to read and write Japanese and displays simplified and traditional Chinese, Hangul (Korean) and Japanese characters on BlackBerry® handheld devices. This has contributed tremendously to the global mobility of bilingual business people.
Mr. Maeda holds both a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a Master of Electrical Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
In addition, he earned an MBA at MIT’s Sloan School of Management in June 2002.
Senior Vice President
Seiji Kawamura is Senior Vice President in charge of financial management, investor relations, corporate communications, general affairs, and oversight of the company’s Washington D.C. Office. Prior to his assignment to New York, Mr. Kawamura was based in Washington D.C. for four years where he was responsible for conducting research on the policy issues in the U.S. telecommunications industry as well as managing government and regulatory affairs. Before that, he held key positions in international business and corporate finance at NTT DOCOMO, Inc. and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation. He was also a visiting scholar at the Brookings Institution from 1997 to 1998. Mr. Kawamura received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Tokyo in 1985 and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991.
Senior Vice President, Service & Technology Division

Shigeru Taba is Senior Vice President at NTT DOCOMO USA and in charge of independent revenue business, corporate sales and business development.
Mr. Taba joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (then public corporation) in April 1984, where he worked on network and plant planning of fixed telephone network, quality assurance of procured system, and so on.
Mr. Taba moved to NTT DOCOMO in October 1999 and worked in Network Planning Department as Senior Manager of core network planning. He was seconded to Hutchison Telecom (Hong Kong) for 4 years from July 2002 as Director of Research and Development. He returned to DOCOMO in July 2006 and worked in Global Business Department as Executive Director where he managed overseas subsidiary companies and studied new overseas investment. In July 2008, he joined NTT DOCOMO USA.
Mr. Taba received a Bachelor of Engineering in March 1982 and a Master of Engineering in March 1984 both from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan.
